The Court of Appeals has decided to release some of the Kuleli Military High School cadets who were sentenced to life imprisonment for participating in the “coup attempt” on July 15.
Court of Cassation overturned the decision on 71 military students, who were sentenced to life imprisonment in trials related to the coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
Some 116 cadets from the Kuleli Military High School were sentenced to life imprisonment for taking part in the attempt. The release verdict covers some of them.
The relatives of the students shared the decision on social media.
People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu also announced the decision on Twitter.
“The unlawful sentences against 67 military students have been overturned by the Court of Cassation. Of course, it should have been overturned! For years, we have been shouting that the military students are innocent. You are persecuting them for no reason. Happy day to the mothers and fathers. I met @MelekCetk, who is waiting in front of the prison. We are waiting for a photo”
Melek Çetinkaya one of the mothers who has been demanding justice for her son Furkan Çetinkaya said on Twitter, “I won’t believe it until I see it”
She then shared a photo with her son.
